Styling your Engagement Session
Engagement sessions are so much fun, but also can be stressful for a type A planner like myself! There are so many exciting options for outfits and locations that it’s hard to choose! One of my favorite parts of my job is bringing someone’s vision to life! But, how do you decide what you’re going for? Here are some tips:
✨Pull from your wedding theme/colors- if you have a vibe that’s evident in your plans for your wedding reception, then use that vibe for your engagement session too! Whether that’s classy and sheek, colorful and fun, or earthy and vintage. This will provide a cohesive look from your save the dates to your reception and bridal party! For example, if for florals you choose a greenery emphasis over bright flowers, it may look better for you to shoot either at a location with lots of greenery, or a cityscape to complement the classiness of the greenery.
✨Find a common interest! You and your partner are meant to be, but that doesn’t mean you have the same style! Find a theme that both of you can get excited for! (Although they may not want to admit it, men have opinions too!) It is best to find a theme and outfits that you both love! Let’s say your fiancé loves the idea of a city session, you weren’t as keen to it, but you really wanted to wear this fancy blue dress. You could join those two together and make a statement in the grays of the city with your blue outfit! How cute would that be!
✨ Make sure it’s YOU! There are so many fun trends out there, that are so tempting! But, at the end of the day, if that style of clothing isn’t something your comfortable in, or if it doesn’t make you excited, it may not be for you! For instance, I love this gorgeous slip dress on my client, but I would not have a similar one for my engagement session because I wouldn’t feel as comfortable! There is nothing wrong with that, we all just have different preferences. Trends can be exciting, but what will be more exciting is finding a style you love. If you are super comfortable in it now, it will express through your photos! Meaning, your photos will show authentically who you are! You probably will enjoy them more too. :)
The most perfect sessions are when you are comfortable and able to be yourself!!
